Congrats on the excellent cover! It's super smooth and very cool.

Just one criticism is that the vocals are flooded out on the chorus, give them a compression boost! I really respect your high frequency treatments (hats/noise).. I love the fuzz.

Hi,

I should probably introduce myself, I'm from Sydney, Australia. I've been viewing this forum on and off for the past few years but never participated.

I've always been a fan of DR's work and when I learnt about his death, I came back to see the forum and I read about the cover tribute, which I thought was a great idea.

My band goes by the name of Empty, which was never a direct GLU reference, but that's not to say GLU hasn't always been there in my CD library.

Anyway, we mostly record dark-electro/industrial-ish music. This was my first cover (ever) and was both fun and challenging to record.

We're currently working [internationally] with Creative Armada (a.k.a Jeff Cavanaugh), producing a video together for our track 'Ghost Beside You', Jeff has worked with DR in the past and is a great, down to earth person to work with. The track is on http://www.myspace.com/emptystudio if anyone wants to listen.

We are also finalizing our debut EP for an April/May indie release, it's currently being mastered by a group in Chicago.

I'd love to see this tribute album eventuate into a reality. Who is the main contact producing/financing the production?

I'm willing to help (musically/artistically/financially/etc). I'd also like to get in contact with the right people in regards to making it official.

Love the cover of All Wrong!!! (Just got around to listening to it)



Hey Dan, this sounds crazy BUT, my brother's last band was called "Empty" as well (they are since disbanded), BUT the actual crazy part is that my last band was called "Waste Of Time". All GLU references (although my brother's band was called empty when he joined, unrelated to GLU though).

Fiveliter302: GLU is very influential like that! Straightjacket Civilians I like, you've got to load up some more tracks on myspace. Don't let the [vocal] mixing get you down, get out some books on audio production (mixing, eqing, etc).. it's good family fun!

Keroscene: Keep at it, I love the retro 8bit synthline. It's got a great edge to it! You might be interested in a Sydney band called The Presets (http://www.myspace.com/thepresets).. They're doing a US tour later in the month with Ladytron, might be worth seeing if they're in your area!

Thanks. Love your cover of Lonely Again (one of my favorite GLU songs). The biggest problem I find w/ mixing is on one source it may sound perfectly mixed (such as on the recording program, etc..,), and then you listen to it on a CD on multiple radios and it sounds so damn different. At some point I'll get it down! For now I'm sick of listening to the song "Fool" for a while at least! haha. We will within the next few weeks hopefully be getting more stuff recorded/finished to throw up on the myspace page.

Now as far as the album project, you would have to talk to Draven who was working on getting everything put together.

I know exactly what you mean about mixes sounding different on different speakers, that's a normal part of the process.. Although you can tweak individual elements of a mix to stand out or build depth on one monitor output, it might still sound different elsewhere.. Most of the tricks for perfecting this come down to your mastering software (peak, t-racks, etc).
