im hitting every board i know with this. good times....

my list is how id like the songs to be placed in record form...

The Appleseed Cast - The Waking of Pertelotte/On Reflection - Low Level Owl Vol. 1 (8:29)
Probably the best opening to an album, let alone a double, i've heard. This record on it's own stands as one of the most influential, experimental, massive pieces i own. These 2 tracks set the tone for an experience you won't soon forget. I listened to the cast before this came out from end of the ring wars to today. Unfortunately, Low level owl was so big in scope that nothing the band has done since even comes close. This was the reason i started to play drums. Phenomenal.

Explosions In The Sky - The Only Moment We Were Alone - The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place (10:14)
I absolutely love soft to loud dynamics and these guys do it right. slow creeping rhythm building to hooks that will stay with you for life. who needs vocals when you got guitar tones that actually speak to your soul. then you have the end.
beat your head against the #### wall and watch it fall fragmented to the floor.

Mellowdrone - Fall On Your Knees - Glassblower (3:57)
I discovered J. Bates from a copy of CMJ magazine back in '00. It had one of those sample discs in it and a group called mellowdrone. Said it was a mix of deftones, nin, and everything in between. It was good. really, REALLY, good. Amazing singer. amazing lyricist. good hybrid of simplistic electronica, cure-esque guitars, and great vocal harmonies. another reason i wanted to create. unfortunately, as of late, md look to be jumping on the indie bandwagon. gotta get paid sometime!

The Cure - From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea - Wish (7:44)
I had heard of the cure before. I knew they were good, but i was iffy on some of their more quirky tracks (see:friday i'm in love). Although i wasn't a fan of that song i decided to get wish cause i knew disintegration killed. this song came at the perfect time in my life and reminds me of those days. reminds me of birthdays, breakups, europe, living on your own with three other dudes (3 of which did not have jobs), being broke, getting drunk, being depressed... you know, the good things in life. goddammit, such a good track.

Massive Attack - Angel - Mezzanine (6:19)
Another love/hate relationship i have is with the deftones and one, chino moreno. i would love to have them on this list but there are other tracks i enjoy more. one thing chino did do for me was turn me on to some killer bands. will haven, my vitriol, and massive attack. Fat acid beats, dope breaks, excellent vocals... all mixed in with live (or live-sounding) instruments. i listened to a lot of electronic music before this, but more trance/house/d & B stuff. this combined that and added some rock. The best music out there makes you feel like you're on drugs when you're not. this is it. I'd love to cover this. (and the show recently was dope, new tracks are like MA mixed w/mogwai... YIKES!)

God Lives Underwater - 23 - Empty (4:05)
Freshman year in high school. A friend gave me this disc in gym and told me to check them out. Another largely electronic outfit that didn't really fit in with the mold. I continued to listen to them throughout the years. through david reilly's battle with heroin and the breaking apart of the band (around the time i was...23). great song, heartfelt. one of the most under appreciated groups ever.
D.R. R.I.P.

Dredg - The Canyon Behind Her - El Cielo (6:40)
An Ending to die to. Great Drummer. Great Singer. Great Guitarists. Great Bassist. Great Vision. another one to choke you up.

Mogwai - Travel is Dangerous - Mr. Beast (4:01)
I listened to mogwai for a number of years before this came out. I always thought they were interesting and made awesome music. Then Mr. Beast Came out. Then i hit this track. It was all over. Best album of '06. Best song of '06.

God is an Astronaut - Fragile - All is Violent, All is Bright (4:34)
I remember stumbling onto this band when i thought it would be a good idea to google one of my bands songs' phony titles, jesus was an astronaut. A very lucky day. heard this track and they immediately became one of the most important bands i had ever heard. Think of a band that is the love child of every group on this list. take all of those bands best attributes... now take away the vocals (they normally #### things up anyway). now you have god is an astronaut.

Sigur Ros - Hoppipolla - Takk... (4:39)
this band is unreal.
this band is unreal.
i can't understand what they're saying.
this band is unreal.
this band is unreal.
this song just made me sooooooo sad i can't stand myself.
these guys have the uncanny ability to make soundtracky music that can fit any possible situation. for instance: my dog is sitting next to me looking at me. this song fits perfect. im walking on the snow covered north beach. this song is perfect. im going to kill myself. this song is perfect. im having a child. this song is perfect. you get the point....
songs that can be the saddest and the most uplifteing @ the same time.

Nine Inch Nails - Something I Can Never Have - Pretty Hate Machine (5:57)
Trent Reznor is the single most influential artist i know. Let's forget about with teeth for a moment however. that record sucked. He is the reason i started to make music. he changed so many things, yet stayed true to himself (even if that meant sobering up, taking zoloft, and doing 10000 push ups a day). i don't know why it wasn't last on PHM but it's last here. Yeah there's a number of NIN songs that were more influential, but when i heard this track in '94 i knew i would be following his works for the rest of my life.

whoops an hour and 5 mins. still fits on a standard cd, so #### it.

i don't know how better to explain it. what would be your perfect record?

oh okay. well, then... i'll have to get back to you on that. I think alot of records are the perfect record. all depending on the artist. Any pink floyd record, NIN's TDS, Mansons Antichrist, GLU's Litscsa, Sex Pistols Nevermind..., Mars Volta's deloused, nirvana's in utero, tools' aenima. well really it all depends on the group, but, if i had to pick the 12 or thirteen best songs, they would go something like this:

1. Pink Floyd: Vera (from "the wall")
2. Toadies: Plane Crash (from "hell below/stars above")
3. Pixies: Something Against You (from "surfer Rosa")
4. Scratch Acid: She Said (from "Greatest Gift")
5. Nine Inch Nails: Eraser (from "The Downward Spiral")
6. Kimya Dawson: The Beer (i have no idea where this is from)
7. The Postal Service: The District Sleeps Alone (from "Give Up")
8. God Lives Underwater: Alone Again (from "Life in the so-called Space Age")
9. The MArs Volta: Cicatriz ESP (from "De-loused in the Comatorium")
10. I can't think right now, more later...
