I am having a "meeting" with Gretchen tonight via phone about How Humans Rx... I would like all you guys' imput. This is the e-mail I recieved that started this whole process in the first place.. please post any thoughts, comments, advice, or suggestions you have for Gretchen and I will bring them to her attention tonight about the release of the album:
I need your advice. His manager wanted to forget getting the album released, as the label went bankrupt. He wants to release "How Humans Rx" on SnoCap. I thought it over and said, "NO". I said that I want to get in touch with the owner of the label and gain the rights to the album, no matter what. I want to find a label that will release it even if we don't get a penny. I just think that to do right by David, would be to have it released and not on some cheesy internet site. What do you think? Do you think that I'm being ridiculous...has the time passed to get anything done with the album? I'm so confused, but I think that now, for the first time since David died, that I'm ready to get things rolling with things. I need to know what you think, you are the only one I trust!!!!

Thats pretty interesting.

I don't have any knowledge of how the business really works so keep that in mind with these few random thoughts I have. And some of these are just opinions.

* Can't really comment on snocap as I never tried it. I have moved from downloading music on iTunes to Amazon though. Amazon mp3 downloads are 256kbps and no drm so much superior in my opinion. Even though iTunes has the vast majority of the market I think Amazon is making steady progress against them. It would be cool if his songs were on either of those.

* Would also be cool if the original EP was made available via download in at the same time. Does CPR have the rights to the EP?

* Any chance of Jeff / Gary helping out from Nitrus records? Then seem to be able to get stuff on iTunes. With the history I would imagine Nitrus would best represent David. But that may be wishful thinking.

Let us know what happens Brian!

had a long discussion with Gretchen about releasing the album "officially"... we have a lot that is going to be announced soon. I hate teasing you guys but there are a few strings that need to be tied off before we can publicly say anything about the album...

I promise you, you guys will be the first to know when we are able to make an official press release with the specifics...

hint: its all good stuff

I really think this needs a proper release. Call me old fasioned but I really want a genuine release-a silver bottom CD that is on a label that has a booklet and is physically in my hands.
We must face the fact that we will probably never get another GLU CD-although there is enough unreleased material to have a 4 CD box set. This will be closure in a way.
I remember knowing that UP OFF THE FLOOR was coming in 2000 then it didn't come till 2004-it seems like a short period of time but damn if those four years didn't feel like a century...didn't it?
Bottom line is please see it gets a proper release!

a four cd boxed set?

that would be impressive, considering all of the unreleased (non-live) glu stuff fits on two cds.

but, that's me being ignorant.

i assume that just because i don't know about it, it doesn't exist.

but i mean, really, we all have A LOT of unreleased stuff already on the ftp, how much more could there be? i know they were always under pressure to pump #### out, so, i doubt there are any lost records or anything like that. But, maybe, because i like to keep my hopes up and lost records rule.

argh. my head is spinning with the idea of four cd's of stuff.
maybe 3 and a dvd, like the Nirvana box?

maybe you misunderstood me... we are talking about a PROPER release!!! even more proper than the INSIDE ep, fully distrobuted wordwide etc... it will be as "proper" as Michael Jackson's Thriller album, lol

I think the question you have to ask yourself is....Does anyone actually buy CD's anymore? Given that most fans have already downloaded the mp3's from the FTP, are they going to pay for a CD with the same songs? I think some people would, but more likely won't, CD's simply don't sell much anymore. Having the tracks on CD would be ideal as this would require further mastering and we would get to hear the songs in wav rather than mp3. But, who will look after this task? GLU has proven that they haven't had the best of luck at times.....like the Up Off the Floor disaster with that german label. And on a side note, anyone who bought the WAW instrumentals from Beatport in wav format actually paid a surcharge for no reason, as the so-called wavs turned out to be mp3 sourced. Given that this will be David's final release, there needs to be some strict monitering so the final product is a great album.....(and not just mp3's burned to a CD) Personally, I think Gretchen made a very good decision not to release the album online. How big are you guys thinking with this release? Overall, I stress proper production with a reputable engineer.....not some no name person, then we might as well stick with the mp3's.
