ok it's not a full on cover, I used the music from their instrumental version of the album they released and dropped my own vocals, harmonies and backups on there..but check it if you like.

Dude you did a good cover, your a very good vocalist.
The song sounded a little too close to the original but overall it was right on the money man!
Good job!

cool, thNks man. I was actually going for being pretty close to the original, instead of an original take like one would do in an official cover, it was more just a little project on mixing vocals and layering while testing out some new gear and mixing methods etc.

sounds real good man. Howd you go about posting the cover song. I have some cover stuff I want to put up but am afraid of copyright laws. Seems likes soundclick and myspace are not the way to go for covers. I'm not selling or anything, just messing around with a couple songs. Any ideas on how I could post some songs w/o the possibility of getting in trouble? Thanks. Great job on those songs

most covers you can post as long as you don't charge and you don't use any parts of the original recording and you give credit. If you do as I did on this song and use the orginal music you have to be sure the artists have given rights to do so..when WAW released the instrumental album they did so with permission to use the music for covers and remixes etc.

Best policy is unless you completely rewrite the song (as well as don't charge $$ and do give credit) or use recordings with creative commons licenses, don't post them....but all in all I doubt anyone is really gonna care unless you sell the songs on an album and make a million bucks..then the artists might want their cut hahahah

I would suggest posting them onto the site I have mine on so you can just send people links or whatever or use a site like soundclick, I use it as well and it's pretty decent.

thanks, I'm working on my soundclick site now. I noticed the site you used you had .wav files. All my stuff is in .wav but soundclick only accepts mp3. Any idea how to convert? I'm not so good at the ol' computer business.

I posted my Happy instrumental, let me know what you think

yeah there's actuallt quite a lot of freebie programs to convert files to mp3..I record and mix in Cubase so I can export in either format...I sometimes export in mp3 online for the sake of size but I will sometimes load a wav because its better sound quality of course..on my 2 WAS songs I just loaded the wav file on let me go because I forgot to export to mp3 and was too lazy that day to go redo it but I probably will because you can't upload waves as widgets and mp3 u can.

So what do you use to record..gear and software wise?

oh forgot to mention there's a program called FreeRip that might help you out as far as converting files go..pretty easy to use and free still I think

for this stuff I just used my Korg Triton LE 88key through a Fast Track Pro audio interface. Ive only played piano before so I'm in the early learning stages. As far as software it came w/ Ableton Live Lite 6 but it was a little over my head. Seemed more geared for dj's or people that like to create there own beats. Im sure its great but too much for me to handle at this point. A friend gave me Nuendo3 since it is very straightforward and user friendly. I have a Shure 57 mic that I plan to put some vocals and acoustics on but thats for another day. Ill check out those converters. Thanks for the advice!

Do you ever have issues w/ esnips download speed? Is it cause I have them in .wav and the files are too big? Usually works ok on my comp but not on others. Would converting to mp3 solve this?

sounds cool. I have ableton I use it here and there but I mostly just use synths and some vst effects and midi patches, record into cubase and mix in that..I'll use Reason and Rebirth sometimes too, guitars vocals and such I have some anologue effects and then use some VSTs for mixing them and such.

yeah the delay for upload on esnip is probably the size of the wav file, convert to mp3 the files will be smaller and load faster. comparatively a 50mb wav is only gonna be like 9 to 15mb in mp3 or somewhere around there depending on the quality of the mp3 you want...don't want to compress it too much or you lose all high and low end and it's all compressed and mid range-ish.

if you haven't heard it before I did a song for the (yet to be released if ever) GLU tribute album back a few years ago...it's on my myspace with some other original songs www.myspace.com/simianthinktank

I figured by now the band would be working on another album but I have not heard anything. As far as I know Jeff and Matt are separately working on different music projects and mostly doing commercial based music stuff with noiselabmusic.com

I'd love to hear another WAW album but I don't think it is gonna happen anytime soon if at all.
