where do you store your....music

Post by mrgypsum »

i keep mine alphabetized and in large cd storage bins, that way i can find something quickly, but its gets out of hand every now and then for instance right now, since i have bought about ( on average ) 5 cds a month this year, so i am pretty screwed if i dont start organizing them - so i have to keep buying news thing to keep them in, luckily i dont own any records, and i gave all of my tapes away otherwise i would be swimming in music.

I have cd's everywhere, some in cd spindles by the computer, but these are only the burned cd's ones I listen to but don't care about. then all my real cd's are placed in a 200+ cd case...but you have to becareful when you purchase these, sometimes the material they use as the back of the pages, is just rough enough to start wearing away at your cd's, it gets damned annoying when I'm super careful with my cd's and yet I find scratches on them. I also keep some in the cases. if you have the tenacity to keep it up I think this is the best way, I don't though, I get lazy.

I have this DVD/CD tower thing that sucks and is annoying to keep organized, most of the stuff I really listen to is laying around in places I frequent frequently. I have almost all of the music I own (+ a lot more) ripped on to my computer, and categorized by genre, artist, and album--some albums even by date, but that's only for bands I really like, for example GLU.

My CD situation is out of control. I bought this thing at Ikea years ago that looks like a stereo cabinet but has 18 drawers that each hold 22 for a total of 396. I filled it up a couple of years ago and I have about another 100 stacked on my entertainment center and I've run out of space there. Money's been tight the past couple years or I'd probably have at least another 50 on top of that. Of course, if I really had the money to buy everything I'd like to try, I'd probably have over 1000 CD's by now. I also carry a 96 disc case in the truck which is never enough. Soon I'll get a new head unit that can play mp3's off CDR's so that'll be much easier.

As far as organization goes, the big rack is alphabetized but the rest is a mess. I also keep a database of everything I own.

I have an iPod shuffle that I keep my current music interests on. I have a car tape adapter to play it in the car, and this cute little dock stereo thing that basically outputs it to some small speakers (I use it while I'm sleeping cause I can't fall asleep with headphones on). iPod shuffles don't store much but it's enough for me, I just constantly rotate what I have on it. BTW, iTunes SUCKS, I use a plugin for Winamp called ml_ipod.

I'm sure you could store a decent collection of cd's, tapes, dvd's, and VHS tapes in a pair of Jnco Jeans...do they even make those anymore? I remember them being the hip thing to wear in school for like a year.

I have so many CD's that I don't even know. I have them EVERYWHERE too. They are in my big CD case in my truck, in the center console of my truck, all over the house. EVERYWHERE. BUT, I have ripped almost all of them to MP3 on my computer so if I do lose one, its not so bad. I have those MP3's backed up on a backup USB harddrive that runs every night at a scheduled time. A few years back all my CD's were stolen. I don't ever want to risk that happening again. I love music too much. I would be lost.
