to all the guitar techies out there

Post by silvercrank »

hey i got an electric guitar and an acoustic guitar

both are in terrible terrible condition. the acoustic i found in my basement and the electric and ex boyfriend gave to me cuz he wasnt taking care of it and he didnt know how it paly it anyway.

now i cant either, but id really really like to learn how to repair em myself
i have a book on everything guitar but still im a newbie and i really dont feel like #### up what i got.

this is what i need to do:
fix loose pickups, restring both guitars, replace missing pegs on the acoustic, fix the amp-pluggy-inner on the electric, and find one of those plastic plates to replace the missing one on the back of the electric guitar
that covers the springys there...

psst my mom is a technician so id get help from her but is there any electric guitar um what are those things called...those diagrams that maybe online?
oh its a samick...no no it a samick lookalike...dammit i cante remember...and the acoustic is a hondo (owned by the same company as the elctric)

Well, you'll have to learn to solder to fix the 'plug thingy'. The rest doesn't sound too bad. Restringing is the easiest. I'm sure there are books on restoring guitars, and there are places you can get parts online. Alot of parts are interchangeable between brands on guitars, depending on the style of the guitar. Some are not.
Personally I haven't ever done much with mine. Maybe some simple soldering and whatnot. Usually I either trade them in before they die, or play them till they're dead and get another.

And also get a tuner to tune your guitar..... Thats ofcourse if you don't have the ear to do it on your own.....

Good point.
You can go as cheap as a pitch whistle, to a $10+ electric tuner, up to an expensive ass rack mount tuner (which I'm sure you don't need).

That first one is pretty cool. I've never seen that before. I guess everything IS on the internet.

Hahah, yeah, it would be awkward to see someone trying to use an online tuner on stage
