nothing right now.... waiting for Walt and Gretchen to come to an agreement. I am supposed to call her this week anyway, so I will make it a point to ask if Walt has come any further in his "negotiations" with the masters.

I have a copy of the masters, sent to me by someone (I cant say who) that I am holding onto in case we need a "backup" version of the album to work with...

Thanks very much for that update. I appreciate everything you are doing. I haven't posted in a long time though I check daily for any updates. I am saddened by everything along with everyone else on this board. I look forward to the album and plan on promoting the album like crazy.

This needs to be a CD. It needs to be complete and finished, and put out to the public. How can anyone just think "hey lets not put this cd out"

Kinda makes me upset.
I give up easily, cant speak so freely, wont someone release me just this time around.
Rest in Peace David.

fron Gretchen last night:
Well, the owner of the rights is out for $$$$$. He wants 5K for the rights to How Humans Rx. We are going to have the lawyer draw up a bill of sale and buy him out.

If he doesn't up his ante once he knows we'll pay it, we'll own it very soon. We are creating a tribute site for David that we will link on every fan site. I am going to have complete control over the website and will keep it up to date and keep updates on release info. etc.

I hate to keep bugging. So I waited two months before requesting another update. I know these things can take time. So without further ado....Do we know anything yet?

All things considered, I'm amazed that this is happening. The only way I could have seen this being released in any form at all that would be commercially viable would be to have Jeff Turzo do some production work on it and call it the final GLU album (and how much bank that would even have is debatable-- to the average fan, Space Age is the last GLU album that had any media attention and that was ten years ago).

Oh, I agree. Don't get me wrong. I'm just cynical enough about this sort of thing that I am surprised that this is coming to pass.

to be honest with everyone, 1 of 2 things are going to happen at this point:

1) the album is going to officially be released commercially

or

2) we will offer the album as a DIY release (burnt copy with minimal artwork) purely as an add-on to the Mantis Package version of the book. Anyone who has already ordered the Mantis Package will be grandfathered in and a copy of the album will go out in the mail automatically... and it will be added to every new order thereafter. This is also a decision between myself and Gretchen to boost sales of the book, which she 100% stands behind and also to help Billy's college fund.

The book's 1 year anniversary of release is next week, and I still recieve orders on a weekly basis so thats where our decision came from.

So does this mean you were succesful in getting the rights?

If so what kind of timeframe are we looking at for a decision to be made about the two options?

Who would be releasing it commercially? A label or consignments?

Would it be widely available or just at a few chains?

Will there be an option to download by itself also?

Thank you for all your hard work and diligence in making this happen. It is very much appreciated by all.

Gretchen has power of attorney over David's estate (kind of like Courtney Love has over Nirvana). So it wasnt so much being succesful getting the rights as it is getting the final mastered tracks from Walt Bass, who owns the recordings. Jeff Cavanaugh has a copy of the album that David sent him before the tracks got mastered. Jeff is willing to master the tracks himself so we can just by-pass Walt's versions of the songs. And yes, Gretchen has an attorney so this little "sidestep" will all be legal in the copywrite world.

I am right now focusing on getting the GLU Tribute CD released, and my second book is being published by WordClay early 2009. When I say almost every waking spare moment of free time is going to getting my new book finished under deadline, I am not kidding. My own band, Transpose, just released our debut album independently in April and we are currently shopping it to labels while playing shows to promote it... so that seems to squeeze any other free time I have. I am NOT saying that getting How Humans R(x) into all of your hands is not a priority, it just seems that right now the GLU Tribute CD HAS to be priority due to it being now 12 months overdue and I HAVE to finish my new book before January. So I gues I took a long way to say simply: I cant focus on How Humans R(x) until at least late Winter / early Spring 2009, whether it will be commercially released or only availble within the Mantis Package.

If it gets released commercially it will be available through iTunes, CDbaby.com and 2 websites (an official DR site that will be run by Gretchen, and a MySpace page devoted strictly to How Humans R(x) probably headed by me). Jeff Cavanaugh, the owner of Armada Sound Systems, may possibly get involved with distrubution to retail stores. Right now, thats all I got on this angle of a release.

...and your welcome :D

Sir Thank you very much once again for a quick and detailed reply. A little hope was all I needed and you certaintly provided that. I thank you once more for all your hardwork and may all the good karma in the world come to you.

Good luck on your band and your new book. If you apply the work ethic to those projects at the same percentage that you apply to Daves work I know you will be succesful.
