not yet... but the orders are still trickling in from the postcards, believe it or not (I still get like 1 or 2 a day from people that were stalling)

Just got my CD. It's defective, has a crack between the layers that looks like a manufacturing defect over the first 15-20% of the disc. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to be causing any skipping or anything during playback. Unfortunately, the CD has been very noticeably made using audio that was at some point poorly compressed so it sounds awful when the music gets heavy.

Here's hoping the online release has audio of higher quality.

I got mine today, too. I've only listened to the first two songs. No problems with mine that I can tell.

The finality

Post by Smell the Vapors »

Got mine as well! Just got done listening to the album.

Brian, just saying thanks for all the hardwok everyone put into getting David's final vision out. I can't begin to think about what all went into this. I just wanted to let you know it's appreciated! Thanks to everyone who worked on this or helped in anyway to get this cd into the hands of the fans.

First Post. Long time lurker. Hi all, formally.

I want to give a HUGE thank you to Brian to start out. I have a bad run at life here for a bit, and looking forward to this CD gave me something to look forward to.

I am so very happy to have this CD in my hands and in my ears.

Is it perfect? No, but what is in this life?

Do I love it? Yes, BECAUSE it's not perfect and I think David would have been happy with it. Would he have probably done more takes? Yup. It is what it is though.

These are the best takes David did, I'm sure, and it's mastered as good as it can be.

I think it's bad ass and it made my day when it was in the mail today. I figured it would be here Tuesday since Monday is a holiday, but it made it today!

Could we maybe start some threads to discuss individual tracks and whatnot? Would that be cool? Excuse my newbieness. I'm not hip on message board etiquette.

That would be fantabulous....

also, I just want to put out there: 90% of you are happy with the CD but there are a small percentage that have sent me PMs about being unhappy with the sound. Here is my official statement on that:

You do realize he is dead, right? You do realize that if a song is not in perfect quality, I cant ask him to go remix or re-record it. We were only allowed to use certain versions of the songs, due to the legal red tape we had to fight through for almost TWO years. Nobody here knows the amount of man hours and e-mails and phone calls that went into getting these 10 songs into your hands. For everyone who is bitching about the sound quality: be lucky you even have sound quality to bitch about. We were left a handful of versions of each song, we painstakingly went through each one multiple times to handpick the best sounding version of each of the 10 songs. We had no control over compression rates, audio mixes, etc. We were left with a haystack and spent two years trying to find the "needles", sort to speak. Then, when we felt we had the best versions of the 10 songs, we mastered it ourslves to make it sound somewhat cohesive as a "single unit" album. Meaning, the way the 10 songs sounded, if put on a CD sounded like they were a mixtape of songs from 10 other albums, the volumes and compressions were all over the place. We wanted HHr to sound like an album, a complete body of work. Once again, dealing with an artist that was deceased, our backs were against the wall with what we had to work with. He didnt leave us fantastic sounding versions of the songs because he hadnt gotten to that stage yet in the album progress when he died. I'm sorry some of you are disappointed, but I dont appreciate you taking that out on me personally.

To the people who have had nothing but nice things to say, OR can intelligently post/chat about the album and its flaws in a constructive way (because I am not blind to the fact that there are flaws): I would like the thank you whole heartedly. And to the people who have sent me PMs, e-mails, messages on MySpace and Facebook about how much they appreciate the CD, I super huge thank you!!!

OK, I was able to listen the whole thing today. I enjoyed it. I'm just thankful that something was released after all this time. It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing and better than it would have been if the songs were released as is. Thanks to all that were involved, especially Brian. It's nice to finally have a physical representation of David's final works.
