IMPORTANT: NOTICE ABOUT THE FTP SPACE

Post by Fiveliter302 »

After almost 5 years of having the FTP up and running for everyone to put up their GLU stuff, I regret to inform you that I will be getting rid of my server space, probably early May. I just don't use it anymore, other than for the GLU stuff.

I hate to do it, because there is a lot of good stuff up on there, but I just don't see the point in me keeping it up and running anymore other than that. If someone else has some space they can make available maybe the stuff could be moved there.

I'm sorry!! Hope someone can help by hosting it elsewhere.

on a lighter note,

okay, what are our options now?

We can go back to the gmail account, although that limits file size.
We can use megaupload, sendspace, rapidshare, but those links die after a short period.

or, I was gong to set up a torrent anyways, we could always do that, have 2 or 3 main seeders for a while so everyone can get what they want off of it in a reasonable amount of time and then email or sendspace files to whoever misses the boat.

any other suggestions?

can you leave it up long enough for me to download everything currently on it?

guess that gives the final incentive for a torrent.
Solved all of my problems for everyone but me
How is that a solution or recovery

Yeah, I'm not planning on taking it down until May, so you have several weeks.

I don't know anywhere that is free. I'm paying for that server space (not running my own server). http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/webhosting/

You can also try http://www.godaddy.com/Hosting/Legacy.aspx?ci=9009

I was actually mirroring your FTP for a time, but the drive failed and I no longer have the material. I'll have to look into data hosting and see what I can do to uphold the archive. We don't expect you to go it alone man.
...and we're stoppin' at your mom's.

Did anyone get anything set up? I really hate to take it down, but it's just time. I would hate for this stuff to not have a home.

I have everything (thanks to ****) up to date as of a month or so ago. It will be a torrent soon, and I will be looking for people to help me seed for a while.

Sent PM to Fiveliter to determine hosting requirements (disk space and bandwidth) for the files. May be possible to host @enjoyglu depending on extra costs.

if a torrent is being made, might i suggest we try to get the quality as good as possible? i've spoken out about the quality of lossless formats before, but i figure with the amount of people that frequent this forum, we could theoretically get a pretty decent torrent of lossless GLU rarities going if people were willing to contribute. i personally have a fair amount of rarities myself that could be contributed (all of which were in a lossy format on the fiveliter sight), and that way people who dont really care for the size of lossless files can convert them to anything they wish.

I've got a copy of the files and the size is around 3.1 Gig. That's big. Way beyond what the current hosting plan allows. I'll do some more research and see what some options are.

a few of us have gone to great lengths to find the highest quality known recordings of anything not on CD, and in UotF's case, higher than the cd. Right now, I am still sorting through doubles and quality issues before I put the torrent up.
