major band on the tribute cd???
hey everyone, I was contacted by the singer of a major band through the book's myspace page about wanting to contribute to the tribute cd. I have spoken with Randy about this and we have decided NOT to announce the band until we actually get a recording in our hands so it doesnt look like we are "crying wolf", but just know this; if this band DOES come through and submit a song for the Tribute it will give the cd soooooo much more clout. The only thing I can say about this band is they are a major label signed band, have had 2 pretty big hits (radio AND MTV), and toured with God Lives Underwater a handful of times during the Life In The So Called Space Age tours. The singer of this band was friends with David also, through the tours and just being in the music business together, and wants to cover a track for the tribute as a gift to the fans. This would be a HUGE push and avenue for this tribute cd to get into A LOT of people's hands that wouldnt normally buy the album. This particular band has a pretty good cult following that will buy anything they are on, especially if its a "new" song that wont be on one of their actual albums. This band's 3rd album came out in 2004 so their fans have been waiting over 3 years for anything new so I am SURE all those people will buy the cd which will hopefully expose some of them into being interested in GLU and then buy their albums...(this band's 4th album is coming out in 2008 so they are using it, as well, as a way to let their fans know that they arent dead and are actually recording again). Its a win - win situation.
They dont know what song they are going to do yet but they have the deadline dates so they know there is a schedule. The singer e-mailed me and said that he will have a "song picked" sometime in the next week or so.
I will use this thread for all the updates and announcements on the progress of it (including when it will be ok to announce the name of the band etc).

i hope they don't cover my pick (from your mouth). that would suck.
but, let's narrow down who it isn't.
1. It's not stabbing westward. (or The Dreaming for that matter)
2. It's not sELF

no, it's not no Doubt.
1. Gwen Stefani is too far up her own ass for something like this.
2. "have had 2 pretty big hits" ND has had quite a few more.
3. "This band's 3rd album came out in 2004" ND doubt has had like 6 by then.
i am going to do a little research and figure it out.
the only bands in that time period that the timeline shows, are:
Fluroscein - only 1 record out.
Forge - can't find any info. ruling them out.
Maintenance of Order - too underground.
Blue Collar Underworld - no recent work.
Semisonic - Four albums out. last released in 2001
Fuel - 3 full albums out. 4th comes out this month (?!) a couple of hits.
Stabbing Westward - Broken Up, Four Albums out already.
Creed - Broken Up. 3 albums out right now though... Scott Stapp is a douche.
Plastic Eaters - 2 albums.
none of the bands really fit the criteria.
so, what do we all think?

I only remember them having one hit "Sex and Candy" yeah it was big but that's the only one they had. The album dates fit, but thats it. I don't see Marcy Playground as a big major label artist. Their official site says nothing of a new album, in fact, the last update as far as news goes is in August 2005. Their bulletin board is not very "rabid" as well. I just don't see it.

1st & 2nd album - Island Records
3rd & (upcoming) 4th album - Koch Records
(and Aaron Lewis from Staind had a "guest appearance" duet-type track on a song on their 3rd album)

"He was also featured on a remix for the song "Crawling" on Linkin Park's album Reanimation (the remix is titled "Krwling" on the album), as well as Sevendust's album Animosity, in which he contributed vocals to the song "Follow" and on the songs "Bleed" and "Send In the Clowns" by the band "Cold."
