There is a problem with this forum.

Post by asamorris »

it is riddled with requests for your money, for products that most of which are in a grey area of legality. In every other forum, this #### is called spam, and spammers are banned. It has ruined this board. Enjoyglu.com USED to be about sharing with each other, and finding innovative ways to enhance the community. But it hasn't been that way in a long time now, and it appears to be getting worse. I've made my rants about these issues on other parts of the board, so I feel no need to go into details.

I propose however that people should not be allowed to sell sht on this board. Ever. Any of you longtime members should remember what it was like. Emagic, I formally request that the spam issue be seen to, on behalf of the quality of this board.

Image

If people want to share things, fine. That's how it used to be, and it seemed to be just fine with the people who actually made the music, considering at least one of them used to frequent the board.

i wholeheartedly agree. giving the choice it would be nice for people be
ABLE to buy a PHYSICAL copy, however that's where it ends for me.
I give away my work free, not to sell. (cept material cost)
I believe its the only respectful thing to do.

I want defend myself for just a second:

you "highlighted" alot of threads that have to do with the sale of How Humans R(x), so all of those combined should only count for 1 "sale item"... plus, I was keep everyone here updated with the production, and when the packages shipped, etc. There is only one thread actually selling the CD (titled "How Humans R(x) available to ALL")...

THREE years ago (2007) I put my book on sale through this forum

Last year (April, 2009), Robot Teen America, The Early Tapes, Inside, and Live @ TT The Bears went on iTunes and Amazon.comMP3

I am guilty of "selling" three items here over the last three years (2007 - 2010). One of which, my book, you're right.... could be viewed as spam, but How Humans R(x)???? come on man, if it wasnt for 2 years of busting my ass it would never have seen the light of day...

wow, I didnt realize getting David's final album a proper release and advertizing it on the only actibve GLU forum would have angered you so much to the point of wanting me thrown off the board...

I don't want to throw you off the board, I just want the board to look and feel less like the back of a Hit Parader mag.

Luke makes a good point. Why not add a section to sell wares?

Yes, You are correct, most of those threads are referring to HHr, but it looks like a new one popped up every three weeks or so. One collective thread, apparently, wouldn't suffice. It's spamming.

You hocked RTA, Inside, and TT the Bears here, a forum where we all have that, thanks to our communal FTP site. Why would you sell those things to us?

What about this "box set"? First, it's not physical, so it isn't a box set. It's just a random collection of songs that, if we didn't buy from your previous iTunes sales, we could make sure we get it there, from you. You know, in case we forget about the FTP. Speaking of the box set, A user asked you about R5 and Pain. He wanted to know if he could just have those two tracks, because he had everything else. You told him to buy it. So, I sent him R5. Do you remember how you got your copy of R5? I sent it to you. Remember? It was supposed to be in exchange for a copy of your book, and then after I sent the cd, you told me you couldnt send a book, but instead emailed me a locked pdf. classy.

You like to play this whole thing up like you make NO money on this what so ever (and I probably wouldn't care so much if you did and admitted it) but i can't remember you on the board at all before the end of 2005, and I especially don't remember anyone trying to SELL the things that David put up for free prior to that. And yet, here you are, selling off every bit you can dig up.
The fact of the matter is, is that the monetary exchange has created hostility, and it should end for the em-betterment of the community. I wasn't calling you out, but you had to come in a act like I was crucifying you.

*sigh*

I hate this.... really... all of it. Your right that somehow over the last 2 weeks this board started to tear apart... partly my fault? sure, I'll claim some of the blame...

also, I was an active user on this board back in 2003 - 2004 (back when Hilary and Randy and Spaz and all of us posted every day) I even went to lunch with Hilary back in 2004 because of meeting on this board and she came to a few of my band's practices, and Spaz and I went and saw Skinny Puppy together, as a result of getting friendly on this board in 2004...

Then I disappeared because some people, who arnt here anymore, were very mean to Hilary after her Dad died... very cruel, so I walked away from the forum. I didnt return until the date my profile says I joined... the reason for that is, because I had been away from the board for a good amount of time, I forgot my password... yes, you can have it e-mail to you but I didnt have that e-mail address anymore that I originaly used back in 2003 when I joined... I just wanted to defend the statement of you not remembering me before 2005 when I have been here, off and on, since 2003 (my handle back in 2003 - 2004 was FailedForgotten, does that ring a bell?? That was me before I had to start a new profile and used Jawa242) anyway, I just wanted to set that straight about my "time" on the board.

Back to other points you made: could have I made one HHr thread? sure... was making 10000 HHr threads spamming... I didnt realize thats what I was doing when I was doing it until you worded it like that. Again, I'm sorry for the mass amounts of threads about 1 album.

R5 - interesting, about the song for the book swap... I honestly dont remember only sending you a PDF file... if you have not read it yet, PM me your address and I will get a physical copy out in the mail ASAP (I wanna make good on that trade, I seriously dont know how that happened... but once again, my bad)

As for the box set - we are removing all DRs stuff for download and going to this "box set" format so everything is under one title.

I want to prove that I truly want to bring this board back together, and I want to stop being the a-hole seems to be assisting in the drama. With that said, I do not know how to upload anything to ftp site. If I mail someone a physical copy of all the songs that are going to be on the "box set", along with some other rare stuff I got, can somebody do that for me?

I am trying to make good here and do what is right since I didnt realize I was being the douche until now...

I appreciate the general concession, and I hope that you mean what you say. I apologise for the extreme formality from this point forward, but I feel the best way to respond is point by point.
I was an active user on this board back in 2003 - 2004...FailedForgotten
Yes, I remember FailedForgotten. I too was quite active here around that time. You may remember my ridiculously over-sized Milla avatar that threw the entire formatting of the board off. In fact, there were about 4 months where it was only Randy and I (and occasionally Pushead) on this (well, the old) board. That's when the idea of the Tribute (more on that later) first originated. But this isn't important, beside the fact that yes, upon learning the old UN, I remember.
R5 - interesting, about the song for the book swap... I honestly dont remember only sending you a PDF file... if you have not read it yet, PM me your address and I will get a physical copy out in the mail ASAP (I wanna make good on that trade, I seriously dont know how that happened... but once again, my bad)
Yeah, I was pretty pissed about that. I read the PDF, and even sent you some praise on it, as well as a few grammatical and spelling corrections. Point is, I read it already, but I appreciate the offer.
As for the box set - we are removing all DRs stuff for download and going to this "box set" format so everything is under one title.
That sounds like a much better plan. However, I still agree with Luke that there should be a new sub-forum set up exclusively to advertise and purchase anything, and leave it off of the discussion forums. Emagic, I am sorry to bring you into this again, but could this be done?
With that said, I do not know how to upload anything to ftp site. If I mail someone a physical copy of all the songs that are going to be on the "box set", along with some other rare stuff I got, can somebody do that for me?
This is the most important part, and should have been considered from the get-go. However, hindsight, blah blah blah... The answer is yes, there are a few users here I know could do that. Fiveliter, Luke. Either one of those I know could do it, and since Luke is here on the regular, I suggest him.

Now, I understand that a lot of hard work went into the multiple projects that have come out of this site, and you make a valid point about this being the "only active" glu forum. That's because, really, not many people even remember GLU. That's what always made this community worth something. However, there are much larger communities (such as Echoingthesound.org, a nine inch nails forum) who have thousands of users, and take on massive projects (dwarfing anything we have ever done here), all free of charge. People volunteer to help, and they do their best to get it out there. That's how a fan-based community should operate, and I think that you, and everyone else a part of this one, would agree.

Now, as for the Tribute, and the current debacle surrounding it. The whole bastard, from conception to completion, took 6 years, and hit a ton of #### hurdles on the way. Yet, we have always found a way to overcome them, because of what we were doing. Paying tribute. I understand all sides of the issue surrounding it right now, and I am publicly asking all of those involved, right now, if there is any way we can sort it out. It would be an absolute shame to have our little piece of "thank you" to GLU swept under the rug simply because of miscommunications and ####. I understand that there are currently, a limited amount of high-quality physical copies that are unable to be moved due to some new restrictions in place. What, does anyone here suggest, could be done to rectify this? We have a lo-qual version available for download. Is that enough for everyone, or should we find some way to get those limited quantities out there, at least to this community?

Again, I second the idea of having a separate sub-forum for anything being sold or advertised.

i think a separate 'self promotion' or whatever section is a great idea

while i don't think you're an asshole, i definitely think that once you make a thread for a particular thing, there's no need to keep making threads - you just need to update the existing one.

but i appreciate you acknowledging that you didn't think of it that way before.

Jawa242 i can upload them for you.
ive pm you and apologized twice and never got anything back from you.
obvious we don't agree on a lot of things, but i still tried to settle things multiple times.

honestly is it fare to sue a kid for completing the impossible.
picking up all the slack fighting to get this to the public.
before i even launch my career, or prove my worth i have to be shut down in fear of a law suit for something that has been granted by david and jeff years ago.

if you want to patch this board back together do the right thing. not for me.
for Asa, Fiveliter, Tom, Nathan, Adam, Brittany, dave grega, Garrett, and the many others i am working to defend. for Davids memory
that's where the community lies, it really means something to us.
im sure you know the good feeling you get out of your book and HHRx

we can start patching it back together by you doing me a favor: for some reason you have it in your head, because you have posted it on here more than once AND included it a PM to me, that I am going to sue you... who the heck am I to sue you? What authority do you think I have??? I have as much power to sue you over ANYTHING glu or DR as you have to sue me!!! The whole "lawsuit" thing came into play when you sent Gretchen an e-mail badmouthing me to her, not realizing that we are so close that we take family trips together every December to Disney World... so you ticked her off and her rebuttel was that she was going to contact the lawyer for David's estate to try to make it so you dont SELL any of the Tribute cds... thats where that came into play. So my favor is: please stop writing about me suing you... you really took that and ran with it and somehow displaced the original message from Gretchen and placed it over my head instead... dont know why you did that, but thats what I feel...

With that said, and finally off my chest:

Luke - can I send you a whole mess of tracks (stuff that will be on the box set) and other stuff I have to put on the ftp? Also, do you still want the lossless version of the Transpose track? I will resend it since the first one cracked in shipping...

I'm no lawyer "I will pursue legal action" is a lil vague is was the last message i got from either of you despite the pm trying to figure out where to go from there... badmouthing.. kinda. i was pissed off and apologized in my own way for it once or twice. you went ahead with out my permission when i was in the "talking about it" stage. i needed to talk to randy and clear up the donation thing. when i invested a good amount of money in the cds being shipped to my house i took it as theft since it was spontaneous, already paid for, and i was stuck with cds that i ordered for randy.

send it with a physical copy of your book, how humans rx, and miss you more than anything when i buy it. this time please make SURE its bubble-wrapped so it wont crack.
would you trade for a couple copy's of the tribute with poster? what do you think?
