I appreciate the general concession, and I hope that you mean what you say. I apologise for the extreme formality from this point forward, but I feel the best way to respond is point by point.
I was an active user on this board back in 2003 - 2004...FailedForgotten
Yes, I remember FailedForgotten. I too was quite active here around that time. You may remember my ridiculously over-sized Milla avatar that threw the entire formatting of the board off. In fact, there were about 4 months where it was only Randy and I (and occasionally Pushead) on this (well, the old) board. That's when the idea of the Tribute (more on that later) first originated. But this isn't important, beside the fact that yes, upon learning the old UN, I remember.
R5 - interesting, about the song for the book swap... I honestly dont remember only sending you a PDF file... if you have not read it yet, PM me your address and I will get a physical copy out in the mail ASAP (I wanna make good on that trade, I seriously dont know how that happened... but once again, my bad)
Yeah, I was pretty pissed about that. I read the PDF, and even sent you some praise on it, as well as a few grammatical and spelling corrections. Point is, I read it already, but I appreciate the offer.
As for the box set - we are removing all DRs stuff for download and going to this "box set" format so everything is under one title.
That sounds like a much better plan. However, I still agree with Luke that there should be a new sub-forum set up exclusively to advertise and purchase anything, and leave it off of the discussion forums.
Emagic, I am sorry to bring you into this again, but could this be done?
With that said, I do not know how to upload anything to ftp site. If I mail someone a physical copy of all the songs that are going to be on the "box set", along with some other rare stuff I got, can somebody do that for me?
This is the most important part, and should have been considered from the get-go. However, hindsight, blah blah blah... The answer is yes, there are a few users here I know could do that. Fiveliter, Luke. Either one of those I know could do it, and since Luke is here on the regular, I suggest him.
Now, I understand that a lot of hard work went into the multiple projects that have come out of this site, and you make a valid point about this being the "only active" glu forum. That's because, really, not many people even remember GLU. That's what always made this community worth something. However, there are much larger communities (such as Echoingthesound.org, a nine inch nails forum) who have thousands of users, and take on massive projects (dwarfing
anything we have ever done here), all free of charge. People volunteer to help, and they do their best to get it out there. That's how a fan-based community should operate, and I think that you, and everyone else a part of this one, would agree.
Now, as for the Tribute, and the current debacle surrounding it. The whole bastard, from conception to completion, took 6 years, and hit a ton of #### hurdles on the way. Yet, we have always found a way to overcome them, because of what we were doing. Paying tribute. I understand all sides of the issue surrounding it right now, and I am publicly asking all of those involved, right now, if there is any way we can sort it out. It would be an absolute shame to have our little piece of "thank you" to GLU swept under the rug simply because of miscommunications and ####. I understand that there are currently, a limited amount of high-quality physical copies that are unable to be moved due to some new restrictions in place. What, does anyone here suggest, could be done to rectify this? We have a lo-qual version available for download. Is that enough for everyone, or should we find some way to get those limited quantities out there, at least to this community?
Again, I second the idea of having a separate sub-forum for anything being sold or advertised.
